Cascading Failures (ASI08) occur when an error, hallucination, or malicious signal from one AI agent propagates through an automated pipeline, triggering a chain reaction of failures across multiple systems. Unlike isolated software bugs, ASI08 is driven by Automated Feedback Loops, where the poisoned output of one agent becomes the "Ground Truth" input for the next. Preventing systemic collapse requires implementing circuit breakers and semantic checkpoints.

What are Cascading Failures (ASI08)?

In an integrated agentic ecosystem, agents are rarely solitary; they are links in a chain. A "Market Analyst Agent" feeds data to a "Strategy Agent," which in turn triggers a "Trading Agent."

ASI08 is the risk of a "Signal Collapse." If the first agent in the chain produces a high-confidence hallucination—or is compromised via ASI01 (Goal Hijack)—that error is amplified as it moves down the line. Because these processes happen at machine speed, the damage can be total before a human operator even receives an alert.

The Mechanics of Systemic AI Collapse

Cascading failures in 2026 generally follow three patterns:
